One year ago today – July 10, 2012 – the San Bernardino City Council authorized City Attorney Jim Penman to file bankruptcy.
Regardless of how one might feel about any individual members of the San Bernardino City Council, this was not an easy decision for anyone to make.
It was one that had to be made in order for the City to make its payroll and provide essential city services to San Bernardino’s residents and businesses.
It was one that had to be made for one simple and reason: the policies of Mayor Pat Morris had literally devastated the City of San Bernardino.
When he was elected mayor eight years ago, Pat Morris promised a new direction for San Bernardino. As we all see now he was telling the truth.
Unfortunately, that direction would be straight into the ground.
Pat Morris’ misguided policies have ruined the City of San Bernardino.
The City’s finances are in shambles as proven by the emergency bankruptcy filing.
Unemployment for residents remains astromonically high with businesses leery of locating here.
Crime is skyrocketing as San Bernardino has lost 30% of its Police Officers.
This is Pat Morris’ legacy as the Mayor of San Bernardino.
It’s one that voters need to remember when selecting a new mayor this November.
It’s also one voters need to remember when they see a City Council candidate being supported by Pat Morris. It means that candidate shares Morris’ priorities.
Those are the same priorities that bankrupted San Bernardino.
Those are the same priorities that made San Bernardino the worst run city in America.
